Sri Padmavathi Thayar Karthika Brahmotsavam – Ankurarpanam & Dwajarohanam (2025)

The sacred Karthika Brahmotsavam of Sri Padmavathi Thayar at Tiruchanur began with two foundational rituals: Ankurarpanam and Dwajarohanam. These ceremonies mark the spiritual commencement of the nine-day festival and set the divine energy for all events that follow.

Ankurarpanam – The Seed-Sowing Ceremony

Ankurarpanam, performed on the eve of Brahmotsavam, is the ritualistic sowing of seeds to invoke prosperity and purity before the festival begins. The Senapathi  Vishwaksena Aradhana and Chakratazhwar along with Veda Parayanam accompanies the ritual .

Viśvaksenar — the Senāpati of the Lord — entered the sanctum (thiruveedhi ulla vandhaar) during the Ankurārpaṇam, with  Mela Tālam resonating steadily and he shone brightly in purple green vastram on a seated posture reflecting Perumal grace on all.

During the ritual, priests chanted Vedic mantras and followed the Pancharatra Agama procedures meticulously.

Dwajarohanam – Hoisting of the Garuda Flag

On the first day of the Brahmotsavam, the temple performed the Dwajarohanam ceremony at the Padmasarovara Utsava Mandapam

Key highlights of Dwajarohanam:

The sacred Garuda flag was hoisted.

Priests invoked the Ashta Dikpalakas (guardians of the eight directions).

This marks the official start of the festival, inviting all divine beings to witness Thayar’s Utsavam.

Once the Dhwaja is raised, it is believed that the spiritual intensity of the Utsavam rises, and all forthcoming events — especially the Vahanam processions — are sanctified.

Special Event:

Laksha Kumkumārcana at Tiruchanur

At the sacred Sri Padmavathi Devi Temple, the priests performed the Laksha Kumkumārcana from 7:00 AM to 12:00 noon for the utsavar(processional) deity , Goddess Padmavathi, gracefully seated on a beautifully decorated platform in the Mukha Maṇḍapam, opposite the Sri Krishna Swamy Temple.

During the ritual, the priests chanted Lakshmi Ashtottaram and Lakshmi Sahasranāma repeatedly, offering kumkumam with deep devotion. With every divine name recited, archana with vermillion was performed to the deity. Hundreds of women devotees participated, adding to the sanctity and spiritual fervour of this auspicious event.

Snapana thirumanjanam

The morning commenced with the Snapana Thirumanjanam at Sri Krishna Swami Mandapam, exquisitely decorated with vibrant floral arrangements.

On the abhisheka peetam, Thayar was gracefully seated as the Archakas performed Nava Kalasa Punyahavachanam, initiating  Shodashopachara Pooja, followed by  thAyAr displaying Abhayam mudra blessing her devotees.

Thus, the choice of Chinna Sesha for the first day underscores the importance of commencing the Brahmotsavam with a symbol of strength, stability, and auspiciousness.
